How Austrian VAT is calculated
For a net amount, VAT equals net multiplied by the VAT rate. Gross equals net plus VAT. For a gross amount, the calculator divides the gross amount by one plus the VAT rate to find the net amount, then treats the difference as VAT.
Example
At a 20% rate, a 100.00 EUR net amount produces 20.00 EUR VAT and 120.00 EUR gross. A 120.00 EUR gross amount splits back into 100.00 EUR net and 20.00 EUR VAT.
Important boundary
This calculator does not determine Austrian VAT liability, place of supply, exemptions, reverse charge treatment or invoice wording. It is only an arithmetic aid.
